PGAQ #27 (Cit) by Vic Steblin, March 27, 2008

2570 Laurier Crescent, Prince George, BC, 250-564-1123

The air advisory of Thursday March 13 in Prince George plus a sweeping ban bylaw prevented the street sweepers from cleaning streets. I noticed one small car having fun with this opportunity and driving slightly off the main path to produce quite a dust cloud. However the dust cloud made by the car was not as large as the one produced by the wind of a chip truck following the central lane. The end result, lots of fine particulate in the air and a continuing air advisory until maybe some rain.

Consider all the sand that we put on our roads during the winter season. They say it is necessary to prevent accidents. However, the cost of applying sand, cleaning it up and of course the delayed cost of all the preventable lung disease would probably easily cover the cost of supplying all vehicles with the best possible winter studded tires. If only we were also responsible and could slow down during the winter season. If only we could think ahead a little and be proactive in our lives. Probably an impossible dream for most!
