British Columbia seems politically directed towards burning biomass, obviously because of resources and beetle kill. Someone gets the idea that as long as burning is efficient that it is OK. It seems reasonable and more of us jump on this bandwagon as we hear about it. But burning is a two-edged sword and is bad both ways. With more oxygen and so-called efficient burning, the products go mostly to gases and leads to global warming. With less oxygen and so-called inefficient burning, the products go mostly to small particles and leads to health issues. That sword cuts both ways so get rid of the sword! In my opinion the best solution is to stop burning. Individuals should stop burning biomass anywhere and at anytime. Communities should also stop burning and rely only on natural gas for the immediate future and ultimately only on electricity in the future. Use of electricity prevents local health problems. Let any wood waste slowly rot into soil and thus slow down the carbon dioxide problem. Get off the biomass burning bandwagon and resist those who promote it.
